PhotoStory Friday Give me your best shot at Better in Bulk

Hosted by Cecily and Lolli

Day 64

March 5: Do you ever look around at inanimate objects, and see metaphors of your life? For some reason my gearshift always makes me think about how close the ultimate cruising speed is to going in reverse...

Day 65

March 6: I paid ten dollars for this picture. That was the price of these glasses, and she's probably worn them once since then (they could be broken by now, for all I know) -- but sometimes a dad is just powerless to resist.

Day 66

March 7: Last night (Saturday night) our power went off at about 10:30 pm. After a minute, I went outside to see if the neighbors were without power too -- they weren't. So I went to the breaker box, which is an older box, on the side of our house. Something wasn't right. Then I realized what it was.

The door had been pulled off of the box, and every breaker was tripped -- not just the main.

Someone snuck into our yard, and shut off the power to our house.

I realize it was probably some stupid kids, but I dreamt about axe murderers that night.

Day 67

March 8: The word on the Gatorade bottle was just calling to me. And it had nothing to do with the fact that it was 11:45 pm.

Almost nothing.

Day 68

March 9: Care to venture a guess as to who one that game?

Day 69

March 10: This is a piece I like to call "Up close and personal, with my pores."

I was trying to get a cool reflection in my sunglasses -- while driving.

Naturally.

(Can you see that stray gray hair in my sideburn?)

Day 70

March 11: How did we get to day 70 already?

Thursdays are hard for me, photographically speaking, because I'm trying to get home and get the link up before midnight, so I usually end up taking pictures of crap in my car, on the drive home.

I did that today too, but on my way into the house, this little flash of green in my yard caught my eye. The people who owned our house before us were -- apparently -- wonderful gardners. We got our first full viewing of the show last year. From early Spring to early Autumn, our front yard is quite a beautiful display (I feel like I'm holding on by my fingertips to keep it that way).

I don't remember what these little starts are, but I know they'll be spectacular.

Have a wonderful week!

I so miss driving stick, except for those times when I was stuck in Chicago during rush hour. I would be the powerless one in this house. Maybe you should look into locking the door on your breakers, I can't believe they are outside.

I'd say the 10 bucks was well worth the shot.

I would have dreamed of axe murderers too--that is freaky!

Emma is the bomb :)

remind me to never get into a car with you--

ah green, doesn't it just make you feel like dancing :)

So scary about the breaker box. Why do kids feel like they can do stuff like that? I'm very glad our box is inside otherwise I think I'd be too creeped out to sleep tonight. :)

I love the sign of green. I'm so OVER winter.

I love all of the pictures. The angles you get are so interesting and I really like the UNO picture.

Little punks shutting off your power. Don't they have anything better to do?

Love the $10 sunglasses shot. Worth every penny.

I love the little glimpse of spring too. So ready for that!

We lost power one night too, but not like that. Weird!

LOVE the $10 glasses shot and your self portrait this week. Very, very cool. :) I sure wish I had that view when driving around! Most of MN is so drab -- especially this time of year.

The focus picture cracks me up. :)

What fantastic pictures! I have bought photo props just like you, but they are almost always worth it. And almost always edible. Hmm. Have I mentioned that I love candy?

I love your shots this week!! (--wait, I say that every week.)

- LOVE the gear shift, in its simplicity but complex symbolism
- LOVE the sunglasses shot, a very early Audrey Hepburn we have
- LOVE the sunglass reflection.. and seriously? Driving?
- and the green shoots fill me with such hope.. (: Spring might be here!

You took some really cool pictures this week. The breaker box looks familiar. I have lived in an old house for a number of years. I love it but hate the breaker box!

And hooray for tulip leaves.... Spring is almost here!

Wow, I have an extremely similar shot of your day 64... Love taking photos of shifters.

I can't decide what I like better. . . your daughter's sunglasses or yours. You went all out on the different stuff this week and it paid off! That shift gear makes me think of when my dad tried to teach me to drive a truck...actually I may have nightmares tonight. :-)

I mean because I did horrible on the driving a standard, etc. Not because my dad is a bad guy...I just wasn't so great with the clutch thing.

I LOVE that photo of your sunglasses in the car. I think it is so cool that you can even see your cars side view mirror in there!

I totally want to replicate it... but just the thought of it gives ME gray hairs!

Your photos are awesome this week! I was so busy that I think mine are a little bit boring... oh well! There's always next week!

I'm kind of stuck on the breaker box thing. I can't imagine someone doing that. It's just plain crazy. And scary. I'd be finding some kind of way to lock that thing up. Glad to hear no ax murderer came in the darkness. :)

Oh how that would freak me out...I wouldn't sleep again!!! eek!!!

And yes..those were $10 well spent!!

I love the ten dollar shot. LOVE it.

We've been playing a lot of Uno Attack at our house lately. A few nights ago I swear we played one game that lasted an hour and a half. I would say that it was the worst game EVER except that I won. First game I've one in two weeks.

I totally meant WON for all of you who are snots like me and edit comments in your heads...I need to go to bed.

I think those leaves are going to bring you hyacinths...one of my favorite flowers for spring. They smell delicious!

I would've been waiting for an axe murderer as well. Creepy.

I like how you used the word "one" as a clue as to who WON the Uno game. Clever :)

Some nice ones - love day 65 - great colours.

In South Africa that electrical box will spell a robbery that night.

reflections is always a great idea. I really did pay attention to your pore before I read about your real aim hahaha...

by the way, your dream was freaky :p

I miss driving a stick.. my Mazda 3 was my favorite car, so fun to drive.

That up close picture is cool.. and buddy I have way more grays than you do.

Great pictures once again

Your gearshift philosophy is freaking me out. Seriously.
I'm impressed you knew what to do when your power goes off. If ours goes off I'd just have to sit in the dark or call my husband to come rescue me I guess.
And is that your only gray hair?

Krystyn @ Really, Are You Serious? said...

I'm pretty sure I knew who won that Uno game...but I like that you can see your coal-y fingers. I'm still waiting for that "dirty jobs" self portrait.

And, I think the reflection shot is cool.

I just noticed today that some of our bulbs are blooming. Thanks to our home's previous owners, too.

Love the picture of your gearshift. I had to think hard about what you were saying in the caption until I really looked at the shifter. I've only driven one manual transmission that wasn't a VW, and I constantly messed up my reverse in that car. The reverse belongs up by 1st. ;)

That's crazy about the breakers. I wouldn't have slept well either. How weird of the box being on the outside of the house though. I've never seen that.

Love the Uno picture. You won didn't you? J/K I love that game.

Kids do the scariest things sometimes!

Great pics.....and what stray grey?!

Love that reflection shot. So cool. it takes us about 3 seconds after the power goes out to check and see if the neighbors have power. Mostly cuz we want to know if my mother in laws squirrels have been playing on the power lines again. Luckily, our breaker box is inside the house... so I don't have to dream of axe murderers.

I really want to join in the 365 action... maybe next year. sigh.

I do love the photos- especially the glasses, or pore one!

I've never heard of a breaker box being outside a house -- that would have terrified me as well! Is it possible to put a lock on it?

And that photo was absolutely worth the price of the $10 sunglasses!

That is too freaky about your power box! Why would someone do that? Crazy people.

Taking pics while driving....sometimes it is necessary. At least that is what I tell my husband when he looks at me strangely with fear! =)

That last one has me hoping for spring!

They are all wonderful shots but my favourite is the "Dad is powerless" - love that! that is the job of daughters, to wrap Dad around their little finger.

To a fellow stick driver - freaking awesome. I've come close to throwing my car in reverse instead of third. Not a pretty pos. for my dear old VW.

I really like the self portrait/reflection shot! And your diva.....
But mostly I think I'm glad I'm not traveling the same roads as you :) How do you get such nicely focused photos while driving? I've tried and nearly ran off the road and the focus is never where I want it....

Lindsay said...

I'm still stuck on the fact that someone actually switched off your breakers. That freaks ME out! We used to have our elec box on the outside of our house - now I'm glad we don't. Fareekee!

Lindsay said...

Oh yeah....sorry I missed the deadline! I'll link up this week. I hope. Waters are rising so we may be evacuated. I guess we shall see.

WOW! Those punks must have NO LIFE if they're using there free time to shut off other people's power!

Have enjoyed your photos. I spent today catching up on them. I did my Project 365 last year. Although it could be tedious at times, it was ultimately rewarding.
