Photostory Friday: 365 Week 13

Day 84

March 26: I didn't want to go camping. Camping in the snow is not fun. Period.

But the decision wasn't really mine, and we packed up the eleven year old scouts, and trekked off in to the mountains -- six mothers looking on with expressions that said "I'm sending my son out to be eaten by cougars."

Just as we hit the trail, a snow squall blew in off of the Great Salt Lake. The snow fell thick and wet on us for close to an hour. By the time we set the tents up and got a fire going, each of us was soaked to the bone. A helicopter flew overhead, and we wondered if someone's mother had called search and rescue. The ground was cold and rocky. The night was miserable.

Except for about ten minutes, when the clouds broke, and the sun blazed out across our little snow filled valley, and reminded us that there is beauty in every situation, if you just watch for it.

Day 85

March 27: This is the best shot I have ever taken of the Moon. In fact, I took a few dozen, and I can't bring myself to delete any of them.

I can actually see the Man in the Moon.

Day 86

March 28: Tickling the plastic, simulation ivories.

That's a "C" chord, by the way.

For Chris.

(We'll call this a self portrait :)

Day 87

March 29: This was the scene on the kitchen table. I'm not really sure what's happening here, but judging from the scarring on her head and the fact that she's still smiling, my money's on Dorothy.

Day 88

March 30: I'm feeling uninspired lately. I feel the need to take pictures -- to photograph something, to shoot it until I find it's soul, and draw it out -- and not to just snap a daily picture. I have an urge to create.

Does that make sense? Am I rambling?

Day 89

March 31: It snowed all day.

This pretty well captured my mood -- gray, monochromatic and reflective.

Day 90

April 1: I wonder if this is what the sky looked like on that first Good Friday...

Camping with the 11 year old scouts shows real dedication. Camping in a snow squall with 11 year old scouts shows crazy dedication.

I MUST know about the moon shot. Seriously. It will be my new obsession until you tell me how to do it.

I feel the same way lately about taking pictures. I find myself in the middle of the night not being able to sleep (normal)and wishing I had some good new things to shoot and edit.

I love your moody reflective shot. It needs to be framed small with a big mat around it and a chunky black frame.

Not that you asked my opinion on that or anything...

It is hard for me to comment on any of these because I am too busy looking at that moon picture...amazing!! Tips please!! =)

I know what you are saying about feeling the desire to be inspired in your photography.

Seriously those were all great shots this week!

I bet your son will always remember that you loved him enough to go on that camping trip.

Or, he'll always remember you dragging him on that freezing, miserable camping trip. Either way. :)

We're finally breaking out of the monochrome. Hope you do too soon.

That moon shot is truly incredible.

I'm disappointed you didn't go for the mohawk thing. ;)
So, was the camping experience worth the ten minutes of beauty?
Love the moon shot. It's almost better than actually looking it.

I LOVE the shot you took while camping! And you are brave. Snow = no camping for this gal.

The moon shot is incredible! You are a photography genius.

And I know what you mean. I want my photos to be more than just some random shot...although I feel like I had more than a couple of those this week.

The Good Friday picture is really cool.

I miss Emma pictures. ;)

And I hope the gray/snow clears up.

I've always wanted a moon shot like that. You have a really big zoom don't you? I hate you (not really).

That reflection shot is awesome and as for the shot of the snow....yikes. I don't miss the snow and I think it has gone for the winter out here in the East where tomorrow's temp is supposed to be in the 80s!

Holy cow that moon shot is amazing!!!!!!!!!!
My husband got poured on at their recent 11-year-old camp-out.. but at least it was warm, brrr.. yeah I would not want to go camping in the snow either.

I would say you did a great job creating this week, all very artistic pictures.

Love your picture from the camping trip with the scouts. It is gorgeous!

Speaking of gorgeous, I LOVE your shot of the moon! It is spectacular! Now that I have figured out how to shoot the moon, I need to catch it when it's big and full and beautiful.

I know what you mean about the need to photograph something meaningful. There are days when I really want to take a spectacular photo... but somehow it seems my best photo creations are the accidents.

Even if you were feeling gray, your pics are FANTASTIC!
I try to shoot the moon all the time and NEVER get anything even close to what you have. WOW!

LOVE the sky while camping. Beautiful!

ps I looked all day today for something to inspire me for Holy Thursday and just felt "ok" with my final photo.

Very cool shots this week. You were much more into the moment than I was this week. I LOVE the moon shot; I was actually thinking the other day that I wanted to try one of those.

I think I like the first one the best though. It's like a snowy version of the one that is hanging in your living room.

I would say your pictures this week are indeed creative, inspiring and reflective.

I Love that moon shot too. Love all the moody shots. My 365 crashed and burned mid February, a nasty photography death it was.

But I moved on and started back up anyway. So I have a two week gap. Life sometimes leaves us with a two week gap. (I do think I'm getting punchy)

I love your pictures this week Chris! Really, really lovely. How great are you to take the boyscouts camping in the SNOW! Holy Wow. That is impressive for sure!

Love the toy battle : ) So funny!

The moon picture is awesome. I have never taken a picture of the moon. I am putting it on my list of things to do : )

I would l.o.v.e. if you entered a picture at communal global today... or anytime up until Monday! We need you!

Great set, as usual. Day 89 is particularly beautiful, even if it cloudy and reflective.

And, that moon shot is fabulous! I wouldn't delete them, either.

Beautiful stuff. The moon is amazing. All I could think of after your Dorothy smiling comment was, "yes the force is strong with her."

What fantastic landscape shots you have this week. You should frame the top shot.

Good for you for braving the scout camping trip.
