Photostory Friday: Redemption

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and Sports Mama

I've been standing on my back porch every evening for the last week, watching the patchwork of crimson and goldenrod begin to spread across the mountains above my home.

I feel like I'm breathing again.

For me, Autumn is contemplation. It's reflection and introspection. The beauty of the early Fall is so overpowering to the senses, that each year it seems like a new phenomenon. I was born in the Autumn, and I feel reborn each year. I suppose it's strange to feel renewal in a season of decay and oldness, but I wouldn't have to look far to find someone who would acknowledge that I'm a little strange.

Watching the landscape go out in a blaze of glory, ignites my creative impulses. I write more in the Fall. I take better pictures in the Fall. I play the piano more. In the Autumn, I feel more like the person that I'm supposed to be.

Autumn redeems me.

I am so with you on Autumn. ALL of it makes me all gooey and smiley.

Are those trees near your house too? Beautiful. Our foliage doesn't change color until about mid-late Oct.
What is it that makes you feel renewed? It is autumn or just change?

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot

I love the fall too.

sniff. Thank you for reminding me. I have been, for the first time ever, scowling at Autumn this year. Autumn here means bye bye sun light (it's completely dark around 3.45p after only getting light at 7.30ish) and hello reeeeally long Winter. I do love Fall-- for all the reasons you mentioned.

THIS IS SUCH A COOL PLACE! My word veri is my last name!

Beautiful! I love Fall! It is my favorite season and even though I live in the land of perpetual summer, I still pretend that Fall comes every year! It is about time to bust out the pumpkins and (fake) maple leaves for my mantle!

Gosh those are beautiful trees. And guess what, they are older than you...so you've got that going for you.

What a wonderful post and pictures. Your view is spectacular. Autumn is my favorite too. I love the cold crisp mornings that are so refreshing and the crispness in the air that continues throughout the day makes you want to snuggle in and eat great food. Which can be good and bad. ;D I do more in the Fall as well. I can't wait for it to begin to feel like fall here.

I feel the same about fall. I'm ready to be done with hot weather. Ready to curl up under a quilt with a good book and to make hot chunky soups and watch the leaves and rain fall.

Lovely photos and sentiments, as always Chris.

I too love fall, the damp earthen smell, the cool crip morning air, the leaves making their final show. I love everything about it!
Beautiful pumpkin shot, great perspective. I really never thought of shooting just the top. I really love them all though.

Have you ever submitted your writing professionally? If not, you really should. You've even got me looking forward to fall, and I have been dreading summer coming to an end. Beautiful piece.

Beautiful.....but shouldn't you be feeling renewed in spring? :)

So beautifully captured. I was born in the Autumn as well, but never witnessed the beauty of the season until we moved to New England.

It is truly an amazing time.

I have to agree with you on Autumn. It is my favorite season of the year. Give me snuggling under the covers, the smell of woodsmoke as the nights begin to get cold, cold apple cider and the colorful landscapes over swimming in the pool or throwing snowballs anyday.
