Have you ever found yourself inexplicably attracted to something?
I know, that's quite a question to ask two days before Valentine's Day. Go ahead and insert your own "signifiant other" joke here:
When we bought our house, about six months ago, it came with an old wooden fence around the yard. It's decrepit. It's weather beaten. It's falling apart. It will most decidedly NOT keep out the barbarian hordes.
But, I love it.
And I can't even say why. I think I feel sorry for it.
I think it has character.
Every time I look out into the back yard, I smile at the fence. It's not going to last much longer, and eventually it will be replaced with a "better" fence -- and I guess that's just the way things go.

It does have character. Keep the old fence!
David Letterman???
Yeah, its weird. But in the words of Isaac, weird is good. It's your creative mind at work...gotta love that!
Oh, and Letterman=gap. Is that what you meant?
Gorgeous shots!! I don't think it's weird in the slightest. And yes, you can build a new fence around the old one so you can keep it safe :) I feel that way about a particular Liliac Tree that is back home in Nova Scotia.
That is a great looking fence, and awesome backdrop. I say when you put up the new fence-you build something eclectic out of that one. Keep it going! Love the post-it's real :-)
I say keep the fence! It really has character and personality!
When I read the David Letterman part I immediately fell out laughing, because I thought of his gap. lol
I like your fence very much. :)
I am also a lover of old fences, something so sturdy and timeless about them. These pictures are gorgeous (as usual), love them.
Great photos! It's wonderful to see the beauty in something so unexpected.
And, I totally see the Letterman gap!
I agree with Shannon, keep a portion of it when you put up a new fence so you still have a backdrop and such. Beautiful photos.
I love old things. They have history, a story...the texture & color of your fence is beautiful and you just don't get that with a new one. Shannon had a gret idea - if you do the new fence, you should build something out of the old one.
only if you really need a fence! that one's great! love the sunset shot
That is a beautiful fence! I love the texture of the wood. And the color. I think I would have a fondness for that fence if it were in my backyard too.
I don't think you're weird. I like the fence too!
Haha...love the Letterman comment. I totally got that.
I have obsessions with cool things like that.
That one doesn't look so bad...
That's a great fence!
(P.S. I have been meaning to tell you every time I come here and notice that you like 24, that I too am obsessed with it!)
NOT weird - great photos and a great backdrop - AND - it doesn't look to be in that bad of shape??
It is not weird, but you never know...
with a little change, new good luck may flow in!
I liked the perspective of the shot. :)
That's awesome! I think it's because it tells a story of sorts- it kinda symbolizes strength with it's age!
Loving the David Letterman Gap.
Eventually one of our "eastern" wind gusts will blow that fence down. Until then..I say enjoy.
WOW! I saw the one shot earlier today, and LOVED it. and I love all of them so much. Especially the sunflare. AWESOME.
Its a great fence. It has character. It looks as though it has seen life!
I like the way you have caught little glimpses through it of something beyond. Makes you want to take a peek!
weird is rushing out every morning to give it a hug, appreciating the beauty of it is not weird. Building a fence to shore it up... may be a little weird-- but look who's calling the kettle black.
your word veri is dishme.
Oh a new fence wouldn't be so wonderfully photogenic.
That fence.... I don't know. It works.
And yes, I know who Huckleberry Hound is, and no, that's not who the dog is. You forget that I am old!
Those dang barbarian hordes. Hopefully they won't be raiding before you get a new fence up. I say build the new one outside the old one so you can't see it!
I love that fence! It adds a lot of character to your backyard. :)
I love the idea of making something new out of the old fence when it comes time to replace it. You could have a garden with the fence around it & a gate so you could still enjoy it.
Heh, the Letterman 'gap'. ;)
I meant to comment on your fence love on Wednesdays post.
I think you should keep it. Vinyl fences are boring and PLASTIC.
I like the fence, and your post! Thnx!
Really cool and I love your love of it!! :)
SO NOT WEIRD. :)
I love any photo with texture in it, it makes come alive.
Old = character, right? RIGHT! :)
I wish we had a good-looking old fence like that. Instead ours is from the 70's and isn't even in a "cool" design. Oh well - it keeps the dog in.
and yeah - you may be weird, but so are the rest of us. ;-)
It is a mighty good-looking fence! I would also want to hang on to it. If only for the photo ops... Really great shots, really great fence!
I love it. I can see why you've become attached. And your shots and perspectives are beautiful
I would keep the old fence too. Great photos.
I like your fence too. It does make a great backdrop. it reminds me of the fence that was in my sisters backyard when she lived in SLC.....
Amazing photos of a fence. I can see why you like it. Maybe break it down and rebuild with the pieces that are still good?
Love the pictures. They are great, and you captured them so well.
What a beautiful fence....Oh keep it forever....a new one will just not have the same feel for about 20 years or more!!!! LOVE IT!
Great pictures of it BTW!!
Oh it does make a great backdrop! I love that shot.
I had no idea anyone could write a post about a fence and make it interesting. Excellent job with your post. I love the sunlight pouring through too!
What a great old fence. It really does make a nice backdrop.
If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad, right?
I like the fence. Great shots too. Thanks for stopping by earlier :) I hope you have a great week.
lol, nothing deep huh? I'd say your love for the fence is a DEEP attraction. lol! Keep it, I love it!
My word is obleale!!
What an interesting PSF subject! I like you even more knowing you like your fence because of its character.
We had an old fence like that, and a hurricane blew it down.
Hey Chris - hope things are going well for you all.
I've tagged you for a photo meme. Can you stand it?
