Remember Summer?
The 100 degree days...trying to sleep when the central air malfunctions...the muggy, stifling afternoons...the sticky, smelly asphalt...the endless yard work...the allergies...the wishing for winter?
Yeah, me either.
I believe that the human memory is equipped with some kind of anesthetic that helps us, if not completely, to forget the pain of uncomfortable experiences. This is, I suspect, why we continue to have more children.
When I think of Summer, I remember dusk, on the midway of our local amusement park -- when all the lights come on.
I remember evenings when it's still light when I get home from work, and there's time to play catch in the back yard.
I remember Sunday afternoon walks through the neighborhood.
I remember green grass and flowers and trees and mountain streams.
I remember July nights on the back porch, as we watch rockets paint the sky with a kaleidoscope of fire.
So what does this water drop have to do with Summer?
It snowed last night, but by this morning it was melting.
That's a good sign.

I can not wait for spring. I'll be content with that, I'm not trying to be greedy, but I definitely want to ditch the winter coats, the cold, the sameness of everything.
Great pictures, as always. :)
I love the way you captured the drip. Great photo friday post
Very cool.
And BTW, the female body does release a hormone during and after pregnancy that makes the brain forget the pain of childbirth. So you were right. Imagine that. That IS why we keep having kids.
I cannot find the words to use to describe how I feel about those pictures ... They are stunning, beautiful, breath taking ... I love them.
Holy cow man, those were some incredible drip shots. I love the long drip because you can see the back ground miniaturized in it. Impressive my friend!
I, too, find it funny that in a few months we will be wishing for it to get cold again. :)
Oh, that melting is a good sign!
And, that is absolutely amazing that you captured that melting.
I also agree that there is a reason that we don't have memories of when we are little! Thank goodness:)
Pardon my French but there's just no other way to say it...
Dude, those are some kick ass photos!
Those are great pictures - love it! I remember summer - it's right around the corner her in TEXAS - WOO HOO!
Have a great weekend, Chris!
See you soon - Kellan
ahhh...that just totally made me crave summer even more! fabulous post!
I'm actually the odd ball. I love winter, but living in the south we never truly have them. Summer in Texas is BRUTAL.
LOVED the pictures!!
Tabitha@I Choose Bliss
It's melting here too, today!! Yesterday as well!! Can you believe it???!! Yeah, me neither. Of course, the forecast is calling for much colder weather and lots of snow for the next two weeks yet, but it's slowly starting to change, woo-hoo!! (but we never see 100F temps around here.)
I LOVE those pictures! Incredible!!
Amazing pics! I love playing with water and a lens . . . especially in SUMMER! I'm remembering all the good-- just like I remember wintervwonderland when it is 100+ and dry as a bone around here. (I have 5 kids . . . the mental anesthesia works!)
I cannot even believe those shots! AWESOME JOB!!! And yes, I cannot wait for warmer weather. Grilling...getting my little people outside more. Can't wait!
Sorry -- I posted my comment twice. (I think the anesthesia thing is working too well! I need to get off this box.) ; D
I hate winter when it's cold...and I hate summer when it's hot...
But I too forget the painful memories. lol!
How in the world did you capture these shots? Do tell!
Get this, my word is "vistrop". Haha!
LOVE this post. So much more positive than mine. LOL I tried NOT to post my post tonight....but I kept coming back to it. So alas...it is a downer sort of post, not usually my style.
anyhow, I love the photos. the 3rd one is my fav.
Yes my friend, ALWAYS a good sign. You summed up summer perfectly, as always.
Being in St. George for a few days has be really wanting the warmth to come this way.
Amazing photography!! Hope all is going well with your sweetheart.
Love those pictures, and can't wait to sweat my head off soon!
I just loved those zoomed up photos of the icicle drip! Brilliant!
My memories of our summer was not quite like that!!!! Bit cooler here.
I agree that we are anaesthetized to a certain degree from uncomfortable experiences. Otherwise, we would be living in a world of *only children* as child birth can be one of those experiences!
I wouldn't mind skipping right over spring and going directly to summer. I'm so sick of winter. And I love summer. Strange that I live in Wisconsin. ;)
Those are AWESOME pics! I hate to say but spring is already arriving here, it has been in the 80's most of the week!
Awesome pictures, as usual!
I believe that about the memory wholeheartedly. Especially the 'continuing to have children' part...every time I go into labor I wonder why I did this again!
But yes, I do believe we forget the harshness of things too, we tend to remember the good parts don't we?
Gorgeous pictures! And I completely agree with you about the amnesia of the human mind. And as much as I hate the extreme heat and humidity, I'm ready to get some sunshine, warmth, and let it melt some of my winter blahs away again.
A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
Period.
It is hard to remember the warmth amongst the cold! I love your series of shots! I do host a Macro Monday if you're interested in playing. :)
Love the pictures and the story with it! I love Spring and Summer! Can't wait until then!
Melting is a great start ;-)
Love those drops photos. Very good captures you got there.
I love the reflections caught in the water.
ohh yeah I don't seem to remember anything bad about summer.
I'm thinking 10-11 pm on the deck with the tiki torches going and a cold drink... ahhh yeah...
Those pictures are so pretty!! I'd love to be able to capture such an amazing picture. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I hope you'll come back!
hmmmm... trying to figure out if you really like summer or not??
for me here in Florida, it's always summer!! (well, not really...but close).
Great pictures....of course!!
Not ONLY is that a VERY good sign it is a very good Photo!
I so have spring envy too!
Coming to your blog is like stopping by a friend's place when you've had a long, rough day. Sorry I brought Ky with me, she appears to be attached to my leg...
GREAT photos again, Chris (if that's your real name) ;-)
love the story and the pictures, as always they are enchanting. Our ice and snow are all gone now, in fact the grandkids got their swimming suits out and wanted to have the sprinkler under the trampoline. It's still a little cool for that
Spring today - we were outside most of the day - it was awesome! But being Chicago - I'm sure it will snow next week!!
You are a professional writer and photographer right? Because this was once again, amazing! I love reading your stories. And these pictures are perfection. Well said Chris, really!
Sweeeeeet! GREAT job on the water drip! I love your writing...
Wonderfully fantastic photos! Yeah I believe our minds do that!
Gorgeous drops, and very well said. I definitely agree that the human mind must have amnesiac capabilities.
I can almost remember those hot, muggy summer nights.
Almost.
Maybe soon :)
Just lovely.
Amazing pictures. I'm looking forward to spring. Not too keen on summer here but we have the AC so who's complaining.

Oh how I dream of summer or even spring. Those photos are fantastic. Seriously, the one with the sun reflecting in the drip is unbelievable.
Amazing pictures!!!!
I have hope too. A month ago, I thought we were in a permanent state of winter. Now I think we may get to see summer again.
I love this post!
I especially love "I believe that the human memory is equipped with some kind of anesthetic that helps us, if not completely, to forget the pain of uncomfortable experiences. This is, I suspect, why we continue to have more children."
