Boys are AWESOME!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a terrible tragedy, here in our little town. I really don't feel like rehashing the story again, so if you'd like more details, please check here.
Suffice it to say, a young friend of my son's -- from his class in school, and also his soccer team -- lost his father, on that terrible day. Since that time, all the kids around here have been waiting to see what would happen, when Jake came back. Everyone on Matt's soccer team is aware of the situation. They're also aware of how much they missed him the last two weeks.

Well, tonight Jake came back to soccer practice. And the boys were magnificent. There was no awkwardness, no sideways glances, no whispers. They didn't treat him any different than anyone else. They played hard and so did he. They smiled and he smiled. He was glad to be back, and they were, once again, complete.
This young man has a long, difficult road ahead of him, where he will be dealing with some very grown up issues. But, he's not alone. He's got a team behind him.

What a great group of young boys to be able to handle that situation. I know it must be sad for your son to deal with that as well. If we as adults don't even often know how to respond we know our children equally do not understand. I will have a prayer for your friend and your son that they can make their way through.

That is great to hear. I think it's super the school did some counseling to help, but boys are just really good with this stuff anyway.
